Detail: General Concepts
1. Detail is disciplined and controlled
2. Detail takes time and patience to produce
3. Be prepared to spend some time - maybe hours
4. Most quality art has some attention to "detail".
Characteristics of Detail:
1. Detail is composed of small lines, marks, or
shapes
2. Detail interprets tone as "rendering" with small
lines or marks
3. Detail is part of the secondary spacial development
4. Because of nature of detail work, the picture(designs)
are smaller
DETAIL PROJECT 1
1. Use fine line or shapes close together to produce
a picture,
2. Do not use blended strokes to make tones, but
separate small marks
3. You may use a photo for a guide or invent your
own subject
4. Use pencil, colored pencil or fine pen point
to do the drawing
5. Think about how to use the whole space as part
of the design
6. Trim drawing and mount the work to set off the
design
DETAIL PROJECT 2 (Pointillism)
1. Use four prepared colors of poster paint and
q-tips for applicators
2. The four colors will be blue, red, yellow, and
black,
(the same four color which color printers use to
produce all of the color tones in their printing
3. Keep your paint in the small plastic containers
with covers.
4. Use only dots to make the design. Use dots for
lines. Use dots for tone
Use dots to make color blends
5. The subject matter is open to choice, show your
creativity in your choices
6. Use 9x12 paper, larger if you choose
