3 Paradigms of Wisdom and Truth

Charles Pinkney

The 7 Spirits of God
are spoken of in the Book of Revelation as going forth through all the earth to affect God's purposes:   Throughout scripture there are various references to specific spirits sent by God to impact or anoint people. Some writers have focused on the messianic text of Isaiah 11as the key to the 7 Spirits taken from one  single location:
(Isaiah 11:2) The Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Although it is convenient to assume this single text answers the identity of the seven spirits. I am not thoroughly persuaded that these comprise the seven Spirits. There remain so many other references throughout the Bible that seem to contend for spiritual anointings of God. So, I have compiled on my own list. All of these have specific scriptural support. I will maintain an open mind toward this mystery until the day comes that the Lord gives me perfect clarity about this question. In the mean time, I do not think we should be dogmatic about an official list of the seven spirits but share the wisdom and insights that seem to apply.

Expressions of God's Nature

The Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding:

(The Spirit of Truth)

To discern perfectly is to know the mind and heart of God. To have this heart within you, is to have a guiding light of wisdom and knowledge that discerns and knows the truth. In this anointing we receive the "amen of God." We know of certainty that God is our Father; and that the Bible is His divine voice speaking that Word of truth. By this anointing we understand that we are aliens and sojourners in a defiled world, among "a people of unclean hearts and lips." We know that the that human voices written or spoken, are more often than not speaking from worldly wisdom or personal vanity and not from divine revelation. As we encounter others we also discern that they may be speaking a word that God would have you receive from a righteous man sent from God. With such discernment we receive a prophet in the name of a prophet to receive a prophet's or a righteous man's reward .

The Lord Jesus announces to his disciples (both then and now) that we should receive a comforter, a helper and guide "paracletus" who will come to help and guide. Jesus refers to this helper as "the Spirit of Truth." It is this spirit of wisdom, truth, and understanding who is the voice of the witness, the Great Amen, the voice of the Good Shepherd in John 10: v 4.  "And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron's garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest's office." ( -- Exodus 28:3)

Remember the Spirit of Truth is not a highly developed, encyclopedic mind. It is a Spiritual enablement that is beyond and outside of the normal intellectual operations of a human being. The "natural man" receives nothing from God.
That which is from God must be spiritually discerned. That which is from God is Spiritual in nature since God is a spirit.
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned
